Porsche has been named the most appealing premium vehicle brand in America for the third consecutive year, according to JD Power’s 2026 U.S. APEAL Study, which measures how much owners actually enjoy their vehicles rather than how often those vehicles break down. Porsche posted a score of 896 out of 1,000 — the only premium brand in the entire study to score above its own segment’s average.

Key Points

  • Porsche ranks #1 among premium brands for the third straight year, a “three-peat” per its own newsroom
  • Porsche’s score of 896 (of 1,000 points) is a 6-point improvement over last year
  • The premium segment average sits at 893 — Porsche is the only brand above it
  • The Porsche Panamera was the single highest-scoring model in the study at 910 points
  • The 2026 study surveyed 78,514 owners of new 2026 model-year vehicles at 90 days of ownership

APEAL — Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout — is a different measurement than the reliability studies JD Power is best known for. Instead of counting problems, it evaluates 37 separate ownership attributes tied to comfort, technology, styling, and how a car actually feels to live with day to day. Porsche’s own newsroom confirmed the result, noting the win marks the sixth time the brand has topped a JD Power ranking since 2020 and comes the same year Porsche also won JD Power’s separate Initial Quality Study in both the overall and premium-brand categories — appeal and quality wins in the same 12 months, not one or the other.

“The emotional connection our customers have with Porsche extends far beyond the vehicle itself,” said Porsche CEO Timo Resch in the newsroom statement, tying the win to customer trust in the brand’s products and dealer experience.

Within Porsche’s own lineup, the 911 was ranked the top model in the premium sporty car segment, while the Panamera actually out-scored every other vehicle in the entire 2026 study — 911 or not — with 910 points. Independent coverage of the broader study notes overall industry satisfaction jumped 7 points this year, the largest single-year gain since 2018, with battery-electric vehicles posting the biggest category improvement of any powertrain type.

Why It’s a Different Kind of Win

Reliability studies tell you whether a car will strand you. APEAL tells you whether you’ll actually want to get in it every morning — and Porsche pulling off both wins in the same study cycle is a harder trick than winning either one alone. Three years running at the top of a segment that includes BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and every other luxury nameplate sold in America isn’t a fluke; it’s a brand that’s built an entire ownership experience, not just a badge, around the idea that a car should be genuinely fun to own.
