Polestar has confirmed the Formula 2030 concept, a design study the automaker says previews a bold evolution of its styling language across its entire future electric lineup, including the next-generation Polestar 2 and the upcoming Polestar 7 SUV. The concept was shown privately to investors, retailers and VIP customers at Polestar’s Gothenburg headquarters, known internally as “The Cube,” during a strategy event the company branded Formula 2030, according to Electrek. A public debut is planned for later in 2026, timed to coincide with the media launch of the Polestar 4 SUV.

An Evolution, Not a Reinvention

Philipp Römers, Polestar’s head of design, framed the concept as a deliberate departure from a clean-sheet redesign. “It was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before,” Römers said, adding that the concept retains Polestar’s signature Dual Blade headlight graphic so the car “remains recognizably a Polestar,” according to Auto Express. Even so, the execution looks considerably more aggressive than anything currently sitting in Polestar’s showrooms.

What’s New on the Formula 2030

Auto Express reports the concept reworks Polestar’s “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights into slimmer strips positioned above and below a narrow headlight opening, paired with a low, long-roof fastback silhouette. An aerodynamic bridge element carried over from the production Polestar 3 also appears on the concept, alongside more sculpted, curvaceous body surfacing than Polestar’s current lineup and a reinterpreted rear light bar and rear glass treatment. Top Gear notes the concept also showcases new interior interface and material technology that could carry over to production models.

Timing That Raises the Stakes

The reveal lands at a difficult moment for Polestar, which has posted significant financial losses and recently faced new restrictions on sales in the U.S. market, one of its largest. Positioning the Formula 2030 concept as proof of a fully mapped-out product pipeline, spanning the next Polestar 2 in 2027 through the Polestar 7 in 2028, gives the automaker a tangible design statement to point to as it works toward profitability. Whether that translates into showroom momentum will depend on how closely the production Polestar 2 and Polestar 7 actually track the concept’s sharper, more sculpted direction once they arrive.
