Most people who want a photo of an unusual truck just take one from the sidewalk and keep walking. One man walked up to the front door instead, rang the bell and made his case to the camera.

The clip was shared by @user401031221072 with the caption, “When A Cybertruck Owner Makes A Stranger’s Entire Day…” It runs 20 seconds, nearly all of it doorbell camera footage, with captions on screen that label the two voices as “Man” and “Home Owner.”

When A Cybertruck Owner Makes A Stranger’s Entire Day…

♬ Collision Course – Linnie Borer

The visitor is standing on a brick porch in a light blue short sleeve button up shirt, khaki shorts and sneakers, grinning and talking with both hands. He does not open with the request. He opens with the reason for it. “The Cybertruck is actually illegal in Europe and in the Netherlands,” he tells the doorbell, as if that explains why a grown man is standing on a stranger’s doormat.

Then comes the ask. “I was wondering, can I take a picture?” He has even thought about the pose, suggesting “maybe standing on the side of the Cybertruck or something,” and he acts out the idea with his arms while he says it.

The answer comes back through the speaker without any hesitation: “Yeah, that’s fine.”

“Yeah?” the man says, and his whole face lights up. “That is amazing.”

He is not quite finished. Having been given permission, he has one more favor in mind. Is it possible, he asks, for the homeowner to take the picture for him? It is a bold follow up for someone who rang the bell a few seconds earlier, and he delivers it with his hands clasped in front of him and a hopeful smile.

“Gimme one second,” the homeowner says.

The visitor throws both hands up and steps back from the door. “Okay,” he says, looking like a man who cannot believe that worked.

The last two seconds cut to a different camera that looks down across the front lawn and driveway toward the street. The truck’s door is open. A figure in the same light blue shirt and shorts, now wearing a white wide brimmed hat, is standing up on the door sill and leaning on the truck, and out in the street a person in a dark shirt is holding up a phone to frame the shot. He got his picture.

The whole exchange takes less time than it takes to read about it, and that is part of the appeal. Nobody is suspicious and nobody is put out. One person asks nicely, the other says yes, and both come away with a story.

There is a practical side to it for anyone who likes photographing other people’s vehicles. A car or truck parked at the street can be photographed from the sidewalk without bothering anyone, but the moment you want to touch it, lean on it or stand on it, you need the owner. This man clearly understood that. He wanted to pose on the truck, so he went and asked the person who could say yes.

How he asked matters just as much. He gave a reason, which made an odd request make sense. He said exactly what he wanted to do, so the owner knew what was being agreed to. He stayed back from the door, kept his hands visible and smiled. A request like that is easy to grant. A vague “can I check out your truck” from someone already standing in the driveway is not.

For owners, the video is a good advertisement for a doorbell camera with a speaker. The homeowner was able to hear the man out and answer before deciding whether to open the door at all. That is a comfortable way to deal with any stranger on the porch, and it lets you say no just as easily as yes.

Coming outside also turned out to be a smart move. An owner who is standing there while a stranger climbs onto a door sill can point out where it is fine to step and where it is not, and can make sure the photo session ends when it should. Offering to hold the phone is the friendly way to supervise.

And if you drive something that turns heads, expect the doorbell to ring now and then. A minute of patience with a polite visitor costs very little, and as the caption on this clip puts it, it can make a stranger’s entire day.
