The fire risk isn’t theoretical: NHTSA’s own count of 51 fires means this defect has already been igniting vehicles in driveways and garages, not just failing quietly.

What Owners Should Do

• Check your VIN. Affected vehicles and license plates became searchable on NHTSA.gov’s recall lookup tool starting June 11, 2026.
• Park outside, away from structures and other vehicles, until your Jeep has been inspected and repaired — this is Stellantis’s explicit guidance, not an optional precaution.
• Watch your mail. Owner notification letters were expected to begin going out July 9, 2026, though a permanent fix wasn’t yet available at that time.
• Call your dealer or Stellantis customer care to confirm your Jeep’s status and ask whether an interim inspection is available while the permanent remedy is developed.
• Don’t ignore a second letter. Because no fix existed at the time of the initial recall, Stellantis is expected to follow up once parts and a repair procedure are ready.

Wranglers and Gladiators live outdoors and off-road more than almost anything else on the market, which makes a “park outside” order feel almost redundant for a lot of owners.
