Lexus has entered the luxury electric sedan market with a surprise move that’s turning heads. The 2026 Lexus ES EV starts at $48,795 and delivers over 300 miles of range, significantly undercutting competitors like the BMW i4 and Audi A6 e-tron. This marks the first time a core Lexus model has been transformed into a multi-platform vehicle offering both electric and hybrid powertrains.

The eighth-generation ES represents a complete redesign for the luxury automaker. The ES 350e makes road trips effortless with its manufacturer-estimated 300-mile range, while the all-wheel-drive ES 500e brings added capability through Lexus’s DIRECT4 system.

The new ES EV comes with a built-in NACS port for charging at Tesla Superchargers, and it can charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes under ideal conditions. The vehicle is already on sale, giving buyers immediate access to a luxury electric sedan that combines updated styling, advanced technology, and competitive pricing.

2026 Lexus ES EV Features and Performance

The 2026 Lexus ES launches with battery-electric models that bring significant updates to the luxury sedan lineup, including two distinct electric powertrains built on a flexible multi-pathway platform. The ES 350e and ES 500e deliver different performance characteristics while sharing the same battery pack and offering competitive range figures.

Electric Powertrains: ES 350e and ES 500e

The front-wheel-drive ES 350e uses a single 221-hp permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that powers the front wheels. It reaches 60 mph from a standstill in an estimated 7.4 seconds.

The all-wheel-drive ES 500e takes a different approach with dual motors. It pairs the same 221-hp front motor with an additional 118-hp rear motor for a combined output of 338 hp and DIRECT4 all-wheel drive capability. This setup cuts the 0-60 mph time down to 5.1 seconds.

Both models draw power from a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack positioned in the floor beneath the passenger compartment. The DIRECT4 system in the ES 500e adjusts torque distribution between 100:0 and 0:100 based on wheel speed, acceleration, and steering angle data. During launches and straight-line acceleration, it maintains a front-to-rear split between 60:40 and 40:60 to reduce pitch and deliver more direct acceleration.

The multi-pathway platform represents an evolution of the previous generation’s TNGA-K underpinnings, now adapted to support both internal combustion and all-electric powertrains.

Range and Charging Capabilities

The ES 350e achieves a 307-mile EPA-estimated total driving range with standard 19-inch wheels. That figure drops to 292 miles when equipped with optional 21-inch wheels.

The ES 500e posts a 276-mile EPA-estimated range on 19-inch wheels and 272 miles with the 21-inch option. Both models feature a power-operated charge port door on the passenger-side front fender housing a North American Charging System (NACS) port.

Charging specifications:

  • Level 2 charging: approximately 7 hours with the onboard 11-kW AC charger
  • Level 3 DC fast charging: 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes under ideal conditions
  • Maximum charging speed: up to 150 kW

Lexus includes a CCS (J1772)-to-NACS plug adapter with every ES BEV, making the sedan compatible with over 76,000 Level 2 and Level 3 public charging stations nationwide. A dual-voltage AC charging cable supporting both Level 1 (120V) and Level 2 (240V) inputs comes standard.

Driving Dynamics and Lexus Driving Signature

The Lexus Driving Signature aims to minimize vibration and road noise while maintaining dynamic handling capabilities. Laminated side window glass further reduces noise intrusion into the cabin.

The platform’s 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase compared to the previous generation contributes to improved ride quality. The wider track and lower center of gravity from the floor-mounted battery pack help with handling dynamics.

Electronic door latch releases come standard and include Safe Exit Assist, which alerts occupants to approaching traffic. The ES 350e and ES 500e achieve a low 0.25 drag coefficient thanks to their smooth front-end design with minimal apertures.

Current Pricing and Trim Levels

The 2026 ES 350e starts at $47,500 and is expected to arrive in dealerships in April. Both the ES 350e and ES 500e are available in Premium and Luxury trims.

The ES 350e Premium and ES 350e Luxury represent the front-wheel-drive options, while the ES 500e Premium AWD and ES 500e Luxury AWD provide all-wheel-drive capability. The ES 350e Luxury trim offers an Executive Package that transforms the rear seats with power-adjustable, heated, ventilated, and massaging outboard seats plus an ottoman on the passenger side.

Premium trims feature NuLuxe-trimmed seating and a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System. Luxury trims upgrade to semi-aniline leather seating and a 17-speaker 1,800-watt Mark Levinson PurePlay Surround Sound System. All models come standard with 19-inch aluminum wheels, with 21-inch wheels available as an option.

Design, Technology, and Competitive Edge

The all-new 2026 Lexus ES brings a radical visual transformation alongside cutting-edge tech features that position it as a serious contender in the luxury sedan market. Lexus packed the ES with premium amenities, advanced safety systems, and connectivity options that rival more expensive competitors.

Exterior and Interior Design Inspired by LF-ZC Concept

The 2026 ES takes design cues from the LF-ZC concept, marking a bold departure from previous generations. The exterior showcases a new spindle body design that flows from the hood to the bumper corners, creating what Lexus calls its “Clean Tech x Elegance” philosophy. The sedan features Twin L-Signature Lamps with inward-facing daytime running lights and outward-facing turn signals.

At the rear, a single light bar integrates the Lexus logo with taillight and stoplight functions. The ES measures approximately 6.5 inches longer than its predecessor, with a 3-inch wheelbase increase that translates to a more spacious cabin. Lexus offers the exclusive Wavelength exterior color across all powertrains.

Inside, the cabin incorporates premium materials including semi-aniline leather options. Lexus introduced two brand-first design elements: Bamboo Layering using 3D-printed bamboo paired with thematic ambient illumination, and Synthetic Leather Embossing. The ES rolls on either 19-inch or 21-inch wheels depending on the trim level.

Infotainment, Connectivity, and Lexus Interface

The ES launches with the newest Lexus Interface multimedia system featuring a 14-inch touchscreen display. The system includes a new onscreen home button, split-screen capability, and native navigation integrated into the 12.3-inch multi-information display housed in the digital gauge cluster.

Standard features include:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone connectivity
  • Cloud navigation with improved Voice Assistant
  • Digital Key 2.0
  • SmartAccess keyless entry
  • Remote Connect capabilities

The Mark Levinson Surround Sound System optimizes speaker placement for an immersive three-dimensional soundstage. Lexus designed the cockpit around its tazuna concept, featuring a low-profile meter hood and special surface coatings combined with suede materials and ambient lighting.

Luxury Amenities and Trim Differences

For the first time in North America, an Executive Package arrives on the ES 350e FWD Luxury model. This package includes reclining rear seats with a passenger-side ottoman, rear outboard massaging seats, and rear seat heating and ventilation. The spacious cabin benefits from slimmer seats and trim elements, with lowered front and side window frame edges to increase glass surface area.

Available features across the lineup include:

  • Panoramic View Monitor
  • Advanced Park with Remote Park
  • Integrated Drive Recorder
  • Thematic Ambient Illumination with dynamic themes

The ES 350h offers Premium and Premium+ trim levels in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Prices range from $48,795 for the ES 350e Premium to $60,195 for the ES 500e Luxury AWD, all including the $1,295 destination charge.

Safety, Driver-Assist, and Charging Technologies

The ES becomes the first Lexus model equipped with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 (LSS+ 4.0), featuring updated hardware and enhanced detection capabilities. The suite includes Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Intelligent High Beams.

New additions to LSS+ 4.0 include:
