Porsche is keeping the stick shift alive on five different 911 variants for the 2027 model year, headlined by the return of a manual 911 Carrera S to North America, according to Porsche’s own newsroom announcement. It’s a deliberate stand against an industry that’s largely walked away from three pedals.

Key Points

  • The 2027 911 Carrera S is now available with a six-speed manual gearbox — an MT Package built exclusively for North America.
  • Porsche now offers a manual transmission on five distinct 911 configurations for 2027: Carrera T, Carrera S with the new MT Package, GT3, GT3 with Touring Package, and the manual-only GT3 S/C.
  • The Carrera S MT Package starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the cabriolet, both plus a $2,350 delivery fee, per Porsche’s pricing.
  • Orders are open now, with deliveries expected before the end of 2026.

Which Models Get the Manual

  • 911 Carrera T (coupe and cabriolet) — the brand’s long-standing manual entry point.
  • 911 Carrera S with MT Package (coupe and cabriolet) — new for 2027, exclusive to North America, six-speed.
  • 911 GT3 (coupe) — manual available alongside the PDK dual-clutch option.
  • 911 GT3 with Touring Package — same manual availability as the standard GT3.
  • 911 GT3 S/C — manual-only, no automatic offered at all.

Porsche is framing the move as a response to what its own customers keep choosing. “While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases,” said Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, in the company’s announcement.

The timing matters. Most of the sports-car field has quietly let the manual option lapse as automatic dual-clutch gearboxes post quicker lap times and lower emissions figures, and North America is historically the market that has kept demand for do-it-yourself shifting alive longer than almost anywhere else. By building a manual specifically for this region, and only this region, Porsche is betting that enthusiast loyalty here is worth engineering around rather than simplifying away.

None of this touches Porsche’s four-door lineup — the Panamera and Taycan remain automatic-only — so the commitment is specific to the 911 family. But for anyone shopping a new 911 through the 2027 model year, the shift-it-yourself option now spans everything from the value-focused Carrera T to the track-bred GT3 S/C, with the reborn Carrera S MT slotting in as the new middle ground between comfort and old-school engagement.
