A ten second reel from @socalclassic follows a black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T as it drives through a parking lot. The caption credits the owner and the builder by their Instagram handles, tags Qruisin PCH, and gives a one line verdict: “What a build!” The hashtags are #dodge, #dodgecharger, #chargerrt, #charger and #mopar.

The camera stays close to the car from the start. In the first seconds two people stand on the sidewalk in front of a building, one of them in a red shirt, while the car’s rear end and bumper slide through the frame. The camera then travels along the body, passing a black multi spoke wheel and the smooth black flank, and at about the six second mark a man in a ball cap can be seen at the wheel. In the last second the car is angled toward the lens with its round red taillights facing the camera and a yellow painted line on the pavement beneath it.

What Dodge Says About the 1968 Charger R/T

Dodge’s own history of the nameplate, published through Stellantis media, says the Charger was completely restyled for 1968 and “now featured a big, bold, aggressive look.” It adds that a new roof design, called a tunnel roof or a flying buttress, was introduced, and that the Charger R/T was added to the lineup as a performance model featuring a 440 cubic inch or 426 HEMI engine.

The company’s separate Charger heritage report describes the restyled car’s silhouette as a “double diamond” or horizontal “Coke bottle” shape created by muscular bulges above the front and rear wheel wells. Those are the lines a camera moving slowly along the flank, as this reel does, picks up first.

The reel itself does not say which engine sits under this particular car or what was changed on the build, and the caption gives only the credits and the verdict. Anyone wanting those details would need to ask the builder through the account the caption tags.
